Welcome!

This section has been primarily designed for students attending science courses at University of Nantes. As such, most interactive activities mirror the paper versions used in class. However, this site is free and open to anyone willing to improve their scientific English, so you are all welcome to use them.

Semester 1

Courses taught during the first semester of Academic Year 2020-21.

First Years

X11 - General English

This course deals with a varied range of topics: music, cinema, science, current affairs and international politics, among others. Texts, audios and videos are complemented with series of exercises to assess vocabulary and grammar and offer students a comprehensive approach to English.

Second Years

X21 - General Scientific English

An introduction to scientific English that shows the main differences between general and technical uses of language. The course includes an overlook of the following sciences: mathematics, computer science, chemistry, biology, physics and geology.

Third Years

X31 - Advanced Scientific English

This is a collection of eight individual courses that cover each science taught at University of Nantes. Each course explores some of the most innovative areas of scientific study. They are designed to expand students' technical vocabulary and the linguistic skills needed to share scientific knowledge with others.

Semester 2

Project-based learning courses taught during the second semester of Academic Year 2020-21.

Second Years

X12 - Blogging

Students will learn relevant language resources, computer tools and blogging skills to create their own blogs. At the end of the semester they will present their projects in front of an audience. This presentation should reflect the "history" of the creation of their blogs.

X22 - Forensics

This project-based learning course offers a comprehensive study of all the scientific elements involved in a crime investigation. You will learn to create the investigation file, and play the roles of investigators, science experts, witnesses, jugdes, lawyers and suspects, among others.

Third Years

X32 - Professional English

This project-based learing course teaches you how deal with most situations in professional environments: posting job adverts, applying for job positions, writing résumés and cover letters, exchanging formal emails, succeeding at a job interview, making professional phone calls and other job-related tasks.
